Family Vacation Day 4

On day four, our last full day in Jasper National Park, we left our house early for a longer hike. The benefit of rising early is that the wildlife is up and visible. We stopped to take pictures of the big horn sheep and elk that posed nicely for us.

We drove to the Mt. Edith Cavell area where we hiked the Path of the Glacier Trail and the Cavell Meadow Trail. The Glacier Trail takes you to the Cavell Pond and a view of Angel Glacier. This is a fairly short, easy trail.

From the Path of the Glacier Trail we connected to the Cavell Meadows Trail and hiked the 4-mile out/back trail. This moderately difficult trail had about 1650 feet elevation gain which meant we climbed uphill most of the way! We saw marmots and pikas in the rocks along the trail and had great views of the glacier as we climbed. The meadows had beautiful wildflowers; the pictures hardly do them justice. We also were fascinated by the sound of the cracking glaciers as we climbed.

After the hike, we drove to the town of Jasper to walk around, grab an ice cream cone, and pick up a few souvenirs. Before heading back to our house we stopped at Pyramid Lake to wade with our sore feet and skip a few stones.

After dinner of brisket sandwiches and salads, we relaxed and watched a movie together. We were all pretty tired from the long day and hike!
