One day in June before the temperatures soared we took a trip to Silver City, ID. Silver City is a historic mining town from the time of the Civil War. The mine stopped producing around World War 2, and the town was mostly abandoned. Today people do live in many of the homes, the general store is a hotel/restaurant, and one of the buildings is a little souvenir shop. The town itself is only about 80 miles from Boise, but since it is in the Owyhee Mountains and the unpaved road into the town isn't awesomely maintained, it takes almost an hour to go the last 20 miles.

A little creek runs through the town, so we unpacked our picnic lunch and ate by the water. |
We enjoyed the flora and the fauna on our walk to the cemetery in Silver City. The fauna consisted mostly of butterflies and hummingbirds.
We did not, however, enjoy the Mormon crickets that were all over the road on the way into Silver City.
The day was beautiful and the scenery delightful. We hiked up a decent sized hill to get this awesome view.
