Track 2018

At an early-in-the-season track meet--cold but beautiful.
All five kids ran track this spring.  Seth and Lydia ran with Idaho Christian Running Club again which is made up mostly of homeschooled kids.  Up until this year Lydia had been fairly self-conscious about running in front of people in track meets, and it was obvious she wasn't running her potential.  This year she figured out she was actually pretty fast, and it was fun to see that competitive streak come alive.  What she is most looking forward to in high school next year is running track for her dad.  Seth hasn't decided whether he likes sprints or longer distances.  At this point, he just finds it easier to run short races but realizes he might do well in longer ones too.

The last homeschool meet was the Tuesday after Anna's state meet, so she thought she would join Seth, Lydia, and a friend in their sprint medley relay.  Hope to see more of these sisters handing off to each other in the future!

Such a beautiful evening!

Since Borah HS (where the kids practice and have two of their meets) is near the airport we hear and see lots of planes fly over.  Occasionally we will see fighter jets flying over (actually we hear them first!), but at this track meet, we saw this cool old bomber make several passes over the area.

Anna began the season where she left off last year--running mostly 100m and 200m open sprints and sprint relays.  As the season progressed, Russ asked her to run a 400m to which she reluctantly agreed.  I was at the finish line at the end of her first 400m, and she just collapsed on the ground panting, "I'm never running one of those again!"  Well, she did.  Four more.  Each time she improved, running her best in the 4x400 at State where she ran a 64.  She doesn't know it yet, but the 400m is really her race!  She had a great season, placing 1st with her team in the sprint medley at State and also placing 2nd in the 4x400 and 3rd in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

District champs in 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400!  Sprint Medley placed 2nd.

Caleb and Nicolas both had good seasons at Dordt.  Caleb did qualify for nationals with his team in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  They didn't qualify for finals, but had a great experience.
