Lydia's Senior Year--Prom, Senior Project, Recital, and Graduation

Prom was on a busy weekend. Seth and Lydia had a track meet both Friday night and Saturday and Russ was in Iowa for a Dordt board meeting and spending time with Anna and Nicolas. Lydia wore the dress we had bought for Caleb's wedding last summer. I'm all about reusing beautiful dresses!

Since Cole Valley doesn't have its own track or host its own track meet, it is difficult to have a senior night. Instead, the track seniors were recognized at the senior chapel when other awards were also announced.

Lydia also presented her senior project this spring--her menagerie of crocheted animals. Are they not the cutest? She began making them last summer and just finished them up throughout the year. She learned tons about crocheting and was incredibly independent on this project.

Lydia also had her last viola recital this spring.  She ran in the state meet on Friday night qualifying for finals in the 100m dash.  Got up Saturday morning, raced to the recital, and then quickly changed to head back to the state track meet to run in finals (and a couple relays).

The following day was graduation. An incredibly full weekend! Caleb and Mikaela drove up from SLC to be a part of this big weekend. We missed Nicolas so much but knew he couldn't get away for the weekend because of his job. Next year Anna and Lydia will both be in Sioux Center with him so he will see them plenty!

Mother's Day

What a lovely Mother's Day weekend! Mikaela was going to be gone for the weekend, so Caleb decided to surprise me and drive up from Salt Lake City on Friday after work.  I was definitely surprised when he jumped up against the sliding glass doors by the kitchen table while we ate dinner!

We had a fun weekend not only putting together my Mother's Day gift (cabinet for the music room) but also sorting through all the piano, cello, violin, and viola music so it could be stored neatly in the new cabinet. We also went thrifting, played games, ate Dad's pizza, repotted plants, and worshipped together on Sunday.  We sure did miss Anna and Nicolas though!

Amazing Race

Due to scheduling conflicts and Covid, it had been a couple years since our senior high youth group participated in an Amazing Race.  Since none of the kids this year had participated in the downtown version, we were able to redo that version with a few modifications and improvements from five years ago.  We had a great turnout and appreciated all the church support and volunteers. It was a fun day of fellowship!

The Race both started and ended at the church

This team placed 2nd!
