Iverson

As mentioned in an earlier post, when Caleb and Nicolas came home from Dordt this spring, they brought home a not quite year old kitten named Iverson.  What I didn't mention was that when Caleb wasn't sure what to do with him or how to give him away at the end of the school year, I was very reluctant to take him in.  We already have a dog and cat, and Seth is fairly allergic to cats so I thought it was reasonable to be unenthusiastic. Although I was disinclined to have another cat, Iverson has wormed his way into all of our hearts with his quirky personality and sweet nature (yes, mine too).

So, last week when a strange cat hung out for a few days (friendly to us, but not so friendly to Iverson), fought with Iverson, and left him with a large infected abscess on his chin, we were all a little concerned.  Earlier this week the vet surgically drained the abscess, gave him an antibiotic shot, left a drain in for three days, and just removed the drain today. The drain openings now need time to heal, but the infection is gone. Iverson hates his cone and is not fond of the vet's "no outside until it heals" instructions either.

This is the neighborhood stray who fought with Iverson.  He is quite unique because he is polydactyl.

This is Iverson, hating his cone and feeling quite depressed because the vet ordered ten more days of the cone today.

Anna took his cone off for a bit this afternoon so he could groom himself.  He ended up falling asleep.  Mmmmm....it feels so good to sleep without that cone on.  You can see a bit of his sore on the left (as we look at him, his right).
